Auralite 23
Auralite-23, also known as Red Cap Amethyst, is a very rare blend of crystals and one of Earth’s oldest minerals; estimated to have formed around 1.2 - 1.5 billion years ago. The only locality in existence is the place of its initial discovery, north of Lake Superior in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.
The name is derived from the 23 minerals that are contained within the chemical composition of the stone (the main being an Amethyst base with inclusions within).
Most of the 23 minerals can only be seen under a microscope, with a few dominate crystals forging the appearance of this diverse stone (Amethyst, Quartz, and Hematite). The 23 minerals within Auralite 23 (not counting the “base” mineral Amethyst) are:
- Platinum
- Gold
- Silver
- Nickel
- Copper
- Limonite
- Iron
- Covellite
- Sphalerite
- Chalcopyrite
- Epidote
- Gilalite
- Bornite
- Rutile
- Geothite
- Pyrolusite
- Pyrite
- Magnetite
- Lepidocrosite
- Ajoite
- Hematite
- Titanite
- Cacoxenite
